Today, as part of our start of the year fun, Room 7 were given a challenge. They were given 8 paper cups, a bunch of ice block sticks, 10 small cups and a small figurine. The challenge was to build the tallest tower that they could, that would support the weight of their figurine. The tallest tower would be the winner.
A big focus of this challenge was 'Relating to Others', which is our key competency focus this term. To work well as part of a group you need to: listen to others ideas, take turns, share ideas and ensure everyone is contributing. These are great skills to have. I asked students to choose their own groups and make sure that they were working with a good range of people and I was very impressed with how students were able to organise themselves.
What a challenge this turned out to be! The word of the day was definitely 'resilience'! There were a range of different techniques and ideas used by all groups and everyone was very positive when they encountered trouble (i.e. - the tower fell down!). The winning tower ended up being 60 cm tall!

Welcome to Room 7 2020
Welcome back to school! We have a very busy and exciting year ahead of us and I can't wait to get to know all of the amazing Room 7 students.
We will use this blog to share our work, our experiences and activities, and also as a place to keep links to interesting sites that we will be using.
At Outram School we are positive digital citizens - we always make sure we use the internet responsibly. We use our school values - Respect, Kindness, Integrity and Resilience in everything we do.

Our Class Dance - Cuckoo to You!
We had great fun creating this dance as a class. We brainstormed our dance steps through movement. Mrs Jackson was very impressed with the creativity shown. It was a great example of 'participating and contributing' as well - everyone had a part to play and each individual dancer added something special.

Our new Technology Unit
We are very excited about our new technology unit. We are going to be creating board games for the junior school. These games will be learning games.
To begin this unit we got together with Room 6 and played a whole lot of different board games. As we went around the different games, we evaluated the games and identified a range of different things about them such as what equipment there was and whether the instructions were easy or difficult.
It was nice to work with Room 6 and share this experience.
To begin with we brainstormed our favourite games and what made these games great to play.
